Farm Information |
We have a piece of land on which we are building a house, on the island of Barbuda (via Antigua) in the Eastern Caribbean. We also have a very small art and craft business selling to tourists so artistic volunteers may contribute to this. There are also some opportunities for other community development work in the village if you have specific skills to offer such as in sport or in the arts, but there are very few resources so imaginative and very resourceful people are happiest here. September is usually worst hurricane month so beware coming then. |
|
Activities for WWOOFers |
Volunteer help is needed to clear the land to encourage pasture for horses and goats and to plant crops such as melon, butternut, papaya etc. rainfall permitting. Any skills in horticulture or other sustainable small scale farming methods (especially irrigation or alternative energy) especially welcome. |

Farm Information |
I have 4 hectares of vinyards, vestibles and construccion that includes the only actual hostel in the town, a restaurant and a place for artisan winemaking. The farm is the only totally organic in the area with full organic treatment for vinyards and frutal plants, it's an example for the neighbors and local farms. We work organic since 10 years in a very difficult place to communicate and show the benefits of this culture. We do all as we can to spread the organic world in the area. I work all day in everything it's need to do, for example curing vinyards, the harvest, to make wine, to sell it, to make promotions and touristic trips inside the farm because there's almost no help. I only have 4 workers that are local farmers who also live in the farm. I dream to return to nature, to the antique good practices in harmony with the land, and also to invite the fruits of this hard work that is an organic fine wine handmade by this little group of dreamers. We also want to be known as a temple of good wine tasting, relax and friendship. |

Great spot for travellers who want to experience the BVI with all the benefits of local knowledge. Also good resource for contacts throughout the Caribbean. Aprovechamo todo lo biodegradable para la produccion de abonos (sanitarios ecologicos). Me gustaria conocer personas inquietas y creativas con quienes compartir conocimientos y que podamos fortalecer y sacar adelante estos proyectos. Agro-ecology |

Farm Information |
Our agro-ecological project is developed in two farms located in two different thermic floors, in Cauca Valley region, close to Cali, Southwest of Colombia. One is located at the brinks of the fog forest in the way from Cali to the Pacific sea, at 1,750 metres above sea level. The other is in the geographic valley of the Cauca river, in the suburbs of Jamundi village, at 950 metres above sea level. Both farms have been established based on permaculture design and organic farming, including wild forest zones and agroforestal, forage and fruit trees plots. Also with flowers, bees, hens and kitchen gardens. Our farms are devoted to goat farming, loving and taking care of one hundred goats. We produced several kinds of goat cheese, including cottage cheese, gouda, ricotta, also plain and with fruits yogurt. We offer to volunteers very comfortable accommodation in two cabins, one in the mountain and the other in the valley. We are a couple of two retired environmental lawyers living in our farms. Our daughters and grandchildren are in Erurope. Our companions are - besides the goats - two female Labrador, one male cat and his sister. And also a crazy parrot |

Farm Information |
46 hectares. We produce Panela (natural solid blocks of sugar cane) a very important natural product in the alimentation in Colombia. Sugar cane juice is cooked to high temperatures until forming the honey and finally the panela.. All ours activity in the farm are in relation with the processes of production of this product. We are just starting up the organic farm and we need voluntary people with experience to work and to advice us. With the dung of the mules, 19 altogether used for the transport of the cane, mixed with bagasse, leaves, ash of the furnace, lime, we elaborated our own compost, almost 4 tones per month, and we use it to fertilize the cane sugar crops. We also prepare fertilizing using the sub-product of panela that we mixed with milk, dung and we let ferment to fertilize the garden and the ornamental plants. We are interested in people to work with composting, lombricultura, vegetable gardening, and take care of mules (feed, clean and veterinary cares). Given the new standardization, we have to rebuild the existing trapiche of Gualanday (factory) and to construct facilities in agreement with the new norms. Our objective is to construct a model trapiche panelero for sustainable development where the well-being of the workers is considered and the environment is respected. We are also interested in people who have experience in building and alternative energies (mi-July-0ctober 2010 during the reconstruction of the new trapiche). Gualanday panela factory feed almost 60 families (i.e. 250 people) some of them live in your own houses in the farm. In this region the sugar cane crops are very important for the economy and panela is a very traditional product. |

Farm Information |
We are an ecological farm, and environmental educational center located in Tenjo, Colombia, working for the reconstruction and conservation of the area’s native savannah ecosystem. Our most important projects include the reforestation of fields, the decontamination of the Chicu river basin and the generation of natural reserves and green hallways in the region. As a farm, we want to set an example of sustainable living, of how to live in harmony with nature by recycling, inhabiting our surrounding implementing bio-architecture and alternative energy, responsibly managing waste and water residues, and implementing organic agriculture and farming. Our project of setting an environmental education center around a model of complete and coherent sustainable living has brought us the most interesting challenges and opportunities. Our goal is to achieve a what we call “green state of mind” that is about awareness, learning and understanding of our surrounding and how can we join the cycles of nature without interrupting or abusing them We have divided the idea of sustainable living into 4 different aspects and develop educational programs around them to invite the community and everyone to be part of this learning process. Recycling and Composting, Organic agriculture, Bio architecture & alternative technologies Contemplation and wellbeing In our center of Bio architecture and Alternative technologies promoting community work and the creation of sustainable housing is our goal. We investigate and build with different construction systems using low cost or recycled material like PET bottles, hay , homemade adobes and using our earth and cow excrement to do interior and exterior finishes as well as the design and implementation of green walls and roofs. |

We need to develop gardens, paths, small wooden bridges and recover some slopes. We offer a comfortable room with private bath and organic food, a great family atmosphere and opportunity to visit tourist attractions in the city of Cali (zoologico. ..) for a few days a week. Clean, Government provided drinking water is available at the bottom of the farm, near the road, but it is a 15 min walk uphill to the farm. Most foods would be taken from the farm, or local area. Keith will prepare meals, and cook for you (but you will probably get into this yourself, too). He will teach you how to pick the necessary foods for meals and snacks, and to prepare them in a traditional way. Foods such as: Pineapples, mangoes, dasheen, yams, herbs, bananas, plantain, cocoa, coffee, cucumbers (too many to mention) - almost anything tropical. |
|
Lodging |
With ideas towards natural, renewable energy (although at the moment no electricity is used), the accommodations are made from local resources, and made in a traditional fashion. Your accommodation would be in one of the guest huts, which are made of straw and wood. They are watertight, but open to nature. You can expect to have lizards, birds and perhaps the odd land crab in your hut, at sometime or another. As there is no running water, bathing would be in the nearby rock pool that Keith has made in the nearby river. |
