COMMON PROBLEMS

Q: When I try to log in I get a message saying that I am not yet a member or that I need to pay for my membershp.

A: If you already paid, it takes up to 4 days to activate your membership. Please wait 4 days after you pay before you write to us. After you make your payment, an email invitation is sent to you to the email address you used when you paid.BE SURE to follow the link in this invitation to activate your membership. If you do not receive your email invitation 4 days after you paid, send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com

Q: I have already made my payment but I cannot access the Farm List.

A: It takes up to 4 days to activate your membership. Please wait 4 days after you pay before you write to us. After you make your payment, an email invitation is sent to you to the email address you used when you paid. If you used one email address to pay and another to sign up, there is no way we can match your payment with your personal information and your membership will not be activated. If you did this, send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com

Otherwise, you activate your membership by clicking on the link in the invitation and entering the required information. This process can take anywhere from one to 4 days. If you have already waited for more than 4 days and have not received you invitation, send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com

Q: I have not received the Farm List book.

A: Unless otherwise specified, no WWOOF organization in Latin America ships books or membership cards to members. They all provide access to an on-line list. This process usually takes one to four days after you make your payment.

Q: I can only see the Preview of the Farm List but not the full list with the contact information.

A: Non-members can see the previews but not the contact information. Previews are not necessarily up-to-date and they do not show the contact information. They are only meant to give you a close idea of what you will see in the actual farm lists. If you have not yet joined, please do so by going to the "JOIN" tab in the main menu. If you have made your payment but have not yet received your email invitation, allow up to 4 days. If you have already received your invitation and have entered your personal information, send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com If you do not receive your email invitation or confirmation within 4 days after you made your payment, send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com

Q: I joined WWOOF Latin America but I cannot see the farm lists.

A: Joining WWOOF Independents does not give you access to the farm lists. To get access to the farm lists you must join the WWOOF organizations of the countries where you want to WWOOF. There are some countries which do not have their own WWOOF organization. Farms in these countries are listed in WWOOF Independents You get the list of Independents for free when you join any country WWOOF organization in Latin America (except Guatemala and Belize). To join a country WWOOF organization please click on the country of your choice in the JOIN tab of the main menu on the top of this page.

Q: How can I join WWOOF Independents?

A: There are some countries which do not have their own WWOOF organization. Farms in these countries are listed in WWOOF Independents. Please note that WWOOF Independents is not the same thing as WWOOF Latin America. WWOOF Latin America groups all the country lists in Latin America, inlcuding Independents (countries without their own WWOOF organization). You get the list of Independents for free when you join any country WWOOF organization in Latin America (except Guatemala and Belize). To join a country WWOOF organization please click on the country of your choice in the JOIN tab of the main menu on the top of this page.

Q: PayPal or ClickBank will not accept my payment.

A: Make sure you enter your name, address and postal (zip) code as they are registered for your credit card. Be sure to enter the postal code of your home or legal address and not the postal (zip) code of the place where you are now. If you are sure you are entering the correct postal code, make another attempt a few minutes or hours later. If this does not work, send us an email to wwoofmail@yaho.com

Q: I do not have a credit card. Can I pay in any other way?

A: We only accept credit card or PayPal payments. If you don't have access to either form of payment, consider having a friend or a relative with credit card or PayPal account make the payment for you. If you do this, be sure to let us know the email address of the person who made the payment and YOUR email address. If you don't give us this information we will not be able to match your payment with your name and your membership will not be activated.

Q: I have not received replies from some or many of the farms to which I wrote.

A: Many farms check their email less than once per week, and some do so less than once every two weeks. Please allow two weeks for farms to reply. During very busy times (September to February) some farms are saturated with emails and WWOOFers and take longer to reply. We ask all farms to reply in less than two weeks but we know this is not always possible. If you have a problem with farms not replying, send us an email with the name of the farm(s) and the dates when you wrote to them.

Q: How do I contact the farms?

A: Each country WWOOF is independent, so each has its own procedure. In geneal, you first join the WWOOF of the country (or countries) of your choice by making your payment and filling out a form. Most countries will send you an email confirmation or invitation. This invitation or confirmation is usually sent ONE TO FOUR days AFTER you pay. Please allow for this time before you contact us. Follow the link in this invitation to activate your account for each country you joined. You will then have access to the lists of farms with their contact information. If you have done this and cannot access the lists, send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com

Once you have access to the members' areas of the websites, some country lists will just show the email addresses and phone numbers of the farms. In this case, you email or call the farms that interest you. In other cases, like WWOOF Mexico, you contact the farms directly through the website by clicking on the name of the farm and then on the link to the farm owner or administrator. Several country WWOOF websites also give you the option of sending messages to the farms directly within the website.

Q: How do I report a problem with a farm?

A: Send a message to WWOOF Latin America Manager in WWOOF Latin America or send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com

Be sure to include the name of the farm and describe the problem clearly. Our policy is to take all complaints against farms seriously, and serious complaints may result in the suspension of the farm while we investigate the problem. Substantiated complaints may result in the permanent removal of the farm from WWOOF.

For less serious complaints (not requiring our intervention) please use the forums and comment boards in our websites.

Q: I sent you an email and have not received a reply.

A: WWOOF Country Managers try to respond to all email inquiries within 24 hours. However, there are times when there are too many emails and they take longer to reply. If you have not received a response within 4 days from the WWOOF administrator to whom you wrote, send us an email to WWOOF Latin America (wwoofmail@yahoo.com) and we will do our best to solve your problem and/or contact the country manager. If you have not received a response from WWOOF Latin America within 4 days, send your email again.

FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q: How do I pay for my membership?

A: Most country WWOOFs accept credit card or PayPal on-line only. Please do not mail cash or checks.

Q: Do I need insurance?

A: WWOOF does not require you to have insurance, but we highly recommend purchasing accident and health insurance covering you wherever you will be travelling. Some Host Farms may require you to provide them with proof of insurance. You may purchase insurance by clicking HERE.

Q: Can I share my WWOOF member farm listing with my partner or with other travellers?

A: No. The contact information for the Host Farms will be provided to you under the condition that it not be shared. Travellers sharing information or farms hosting non-WWOOF members will lose their WWOOF membership and may be subject to legal action. Sharing or publishing copyrighted information is a violation of international laws and WWOOF organizations in Latin America do execute legal action under international (world-wide) agreements in foreign countries against violators. If you have a question regarding possible violations to copyright laws on your part or on the part of someone else, do send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com

Q: Is WWOOF a volunteer work or a work-exchange programme?

A: Neither. WWOOF is run slightly differently in each country where it operates. WWOOF is not a volunteer work or work-exchange programme: It is an information service linking travellers with organic farms which promote sustainable farming by hosting travellers.

Q: How long can I stay at the farm?

A: Each farm has different minimum and maximum lengths of stay, but they generally run from one week to several months. Check with your host and be sure to establish the length of your stay before you arrive.

Q: Do I just show up at the farm of my choice?

A: No. You need to first contact the farm of your choice, and verify that they can host you on the dates you want. You must also verify conditions and requirements directly with your host prior to your arrival.

Q: Can WWOOF help me get a visa?

A: No. WWOOF will not get involved in any process having to do with visas, grants, internships, or travel permits, and will not issue invitations, letters or any document to that effect. Neither will WWOOF give out information on immigration or visa requirements, as only qualified agencies may do so and this may have legal implications. We suggest you consult the websites of the governments of the countries where you intend to WWOOF.

Q: Will WWOOF help me in case I have a problem?

A: WWOOF does not get involved with your safety and well-being at any time. WWOOF serves only as a link between farms and travellers and does not vouch for the the programmes and facilities available at host farms beyond attempting to solve reported problems and/or cancelling the WWOOF membership of any host farms or travellers against whom a valid complaint has been filed. To file a complaint please send us an email to wwoofmail@yahoo.com. We highly recommend purchasing travel and health insurance. You may purchase insurance by clicking HERE.
