Hello!

I am interested in WOOFing in Belize. I have traveled there before and absolutely love the country.  I signed up and paid to be a member but have yet to be accepted.  I was wondering how long that takes?  I signed up months ago.

Thanks!

Hi,

I want to report that the e-mail addreses of The Zone and The Natural Farn still incorrect. And the website of Belize Permaculture Center dosen't appear in the Farm List.

It would be great if you could solve these little mistakes so we could be able to contact these host farms. Or it will help as weel if you could give us an alernative e-mail address of both.

Thanks a lot

ANNA

Holà again ! The same problem occured with The Natural Farm. The e-mail address doesn't seem to work, the website either.

I would greatly appreciate if you could work on solving the problem.

Thank you.

Hi.

I'm writing e-mails to farms in Belize right now, and I have trouble sending one to THE ZONE (nfo@thezone.bz). It comes back in my inbox saying it does not exist.

Do you have another address where I could write to the farm ?

Thank you.

I really believe that WWOOF should not be sending members to Hidden Falls Farm. My son Bob and his friend went down there on June 1st.  Apparently the farm owner became upset with them because they did NOT bring trail mix or walnuts (he does not clarify on his information on the farm that those items are for HIS use, not theirs), and ejected them from the farm at 6 PM at night with no way to get into town, because the buses had stopped running for the night. The idea that he would put two kids out into the jungle at night is terrifying.  They were saved by a family of Guatemalan workers from the farm, who let my son and his friend stay overnight with them in their shack, and catch the bus into town the next morning.  We had no idea what was going on, because they had no way to communicate with us, and my email to the farm owner went unanswered.

Bob and his friend loved Belize, and because of the kindness of several townspeople, they were rescued and made it home safely.  I feel strongly that if the Guatemalan farmworkers had not come to their aid, they might not have survived.  That family told Bob that this (Mike putting people off the farm) happens routinely.

This seems to me like an extremely dangerous situation, and WWOOF should not be sending their members into it.

After reading other people's blogs and meeting other WWOOFers who have experienced volunteering at Hidden Falls, someone needs to post something about the working conditions at Hidden Falls.  On the plus side the area is beautiful and surrounded by wonderful people.  There is definitely farming to be done at Hidden Falls, but I want to warn anyone who is considering volunteering there that the man who runs it is emotionally unstable and unpredictable.  I want other WWOOFers to be aware that the man who runs the farm runs it as a dictatorship and will micromanage everything from how to shovel dirt, to closing doors, to washing dishes.  One moment he will be joking around and the next scolding or yelling at you for not closing a drawer.  The description of the farm is not entirely true as well.  This farm does not involve 4 farms; it is just Hidden Falls and some kind of arrangement with Miss Emma.  The practices used are not entirely organic, there are no honey bees, WWOOFer house, or wine making at Hidden Falls.  There is a lot of potential for farming at Hidden Falls, but WWOOFers need to know that the owner of Hidden Falls is very difficult to work with.
