Get off the beaten path and immerse yourself in an authentic & raw Costa Rican experience. Essence Arenal is located in El Castillo, a small neighboring village to La Fortuna, directly on Lake Arenal a top the hills overlooking Arenal volcano. With 22 hectares of prime hilltop forested pristine land, with breathtaking views.

We are a close community/team working to sustain and provide for the world in the most friendly giving way…The farm technically speaking starts at the bottom of the hill after a stroll through the rainforest and overlooks the large lake and has a direct view of the volcano…. Recently made, a new lake has been built as we grow another eco system. Lots of building going on right now with the emphasis of using bamboo for all building creations.

Once on the farm you will overlook a very large lake and you will have a direct view of the volcano. The farm has fruit trees as well as vegetables, beans, herbs, coffee and cacao, also there is talapia in the pond and some happy chicken's which provide fresh eggs. We also have a hostel and provide tasty vegetarian meals everyday in our cozy restaurant which is set on a different hill to the farm.

To unwind after a hard days work the area provides you with everything that you may need, we have a swimming pool on our site as well as a fresh water pool, the lake provides various activities such as a place to kayak/swim and lay down next to it, there is also a waterfall you can visit after a small hike through the forest and a free natural hot springs.

There is a small village called El Castillo about a 20 minute walk away which provide you with most of the aminities that you may need such as mini markets, bars, sodas with Tico culture and a magical community of alternative living people, anything else that you may need you can find in La Fortuna which is a short shuttle ride away. You will be living among and woken up in the morning by howler monkeys, toucans and a whole host of other wild life, also you will make friends with 'Banano' a scarlet macaw that choses to come and visit us a few times a day. You will have to prepare to work hard here but when you leave will feel stronger, happier and healthier.
